Bet Olam, Bet ha Chaim – there are several names describing Jewish cemeteries which in many Polish cities, towns, and villages are the only testimony left of the Jewish communities that lived there for many centuries. A few decades into the postwar era, the cemeteries had often been desecrated by the local community, yet, also became places which were treated as unusual, mysterious, or even exotic. We would like to invite you to a lecture and a guided tour during which we will explain the meaning of tomb inscriptions and symbols which only seem to be complicated. Also, we will tell you what a traditional Jewish burial ritual looks like.
